Manuel António Araújo Silva Janeira was born the 03st of june of 1952 in Porto, Portugal. He took a degree in Physical Education and Sports at the Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto and made his Ph.D also at the University of Porto (Doctor in Sport Sciences). He his Associated Professor since 1998. He was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Sports for 4 years and since 2014 until now he is Pro-Rector at the University of Porto. He is a current member of the National Sports Council and of the Olympic Academy of Portugal. He was a former basketball player and a former basketball coach. As a player, he has five national basketball championship titles and he represented Portugal by 24 times all over his career.
