Fluctuart, the first street art museum floats on the river Seine

28 Giugno, 2020

A floating museum on the Seine: Fluctuart, the only structure of its kind in the world, floats since May 2019 on the waters of the river of the Ville Lumière. Anchored at the mooring of Les Invalides in the 7th arrondissement, in the port of the Gros Caillou district, Fluctuart extends over a surface of approximately one thousand square meters, completely transparent and with three levels, and hosts exhibition spaces, a library and a large roof terrace for summer events. It is a place of creation, exhibition, inspiration, meetings and exchange in the heart of the French capital.

But what does this new space along the Paris riverfront contain? Fluctuart houses a permanent collection dedicated to the great masters of street art, such as Bansky, Shepard Fairey, Vhils and Keith Haring, as well as temporary exhibitions of emerging artists, artist residences, and workshops. Even the exterior of the museum becomes a space for art: thanks to projections and video-mapping installations, the banks and the external wall become surfaces on which the most significant works come to life.

Fluctuart promotes all urban art trends, from pioneers to contemporary artists of street art, and supports emerging and innovative practices. A place – says Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, artistic director and co-founder of Fluctuart – “to put art within the reach of all types of audiences”: curious and art lovers, fans and actors of the urban scene such as artists, professionals and institutions. The project, curated by the Seine Design architecture studio, chaired by Gérard Ronzatti, is part of the plan to upgrade the banks of the Seine. Assigned following the “Réinventer la Seine” competition, launched in 2017 by the mayors of Paris, Rouen and Le Havre (Seine Maritime), the building, made of glass and light, fits perfectly into the landscape of the Seine, completing the walk along the banks reserved for pedestrians and soft mobility. For this reason serving the many visitors to the banks, Fluctuart also hosts a cocktail bar, a restaurant and the Le Grand Jeu bookshop, specialized in magazines, books and limited editions dedicated to national and international urban cultures.

It is an articulated space open to host different initiatives also addressed to individuals or companies, offering the possibility of organizing private guided tours thanks to the presence of specialized and passionate cultural mediators, or to attend live performances by artists or to participate in workshops and ateliers that allow you to create collective street art works. The terrace is also the ideal space for Dj sets and live music. Finally, in collaboration with ATHEM, atelier of scenography and creations, a mapping, mobile projection device, was created to animate the banks of the Seine.

The Fluctuart museum can be visited for free every day (in summer time, while winter time open from Wednesday to Sunday) from noon to midnight. The closest metro stops are: Invalides (lines 8 and 13); Champs-Élysées Clémenceau (lines 1 and 13) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1 and 9).
