Timo Laitinen graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology with a M.Sc. in Technology in 1982. He worked as geotechnical designer in the road administration and until 1986, as geotechnology expert at an engineering agency. In 1986-1988, in addition to postgraduate studies, he worked as housing designer for an architectural agency. Since 1988, he has been employed by the City of Helsinki, first in rock facility projects and after that in the central administration as Project Manager for the Malmi and Viikki, and since 1997, for the Länsisatama (West Harbour) urban development project.
