The Associació del Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica i d’Arqueologia Industrial de Catalunya (AMCTAIC) and the scientific committee calls the XI Jornades d’Arqueologia Industrial de Catalunya. This workshop, organised every three years, aims to provide and collect new views and original studies on different fields related to Industrial Heritage and its history.
In this occasion, the workshop will be held in Museu del Port de Tarragona, from 21 to 23 November 2019, entitled “PORT HERITAGE AND INDUSTRIES LINKED TO THE PORTS”.
In history, ports have been spaces sheltered to receive ships, and perform different operations of maritime or fluvial traffic. Currently, ports are fundamentally infrastructures for the transfer of freight and people between land and water transport means.
Thus, we can say that the bases are the infrastructures. Around them we have port buildings and facilities for the loading and unloading. The port attracts direct port industries as a shipbuilding and repair, workshops of the port and other which we find in the port, as in its immediate environment with economic advantages (industries consuming large quantities of raw materials such as steel foundries, refineries, energy industries …).
Finally, we must highlight as material heritage the broad set of activities carried out by the special vessels on which the Port Authorities now depend, such as maritime signals. In addition, the ports are the stage of a rich and ample intangible heritage.
In the Congress will be presented different topics on Industrial Heritage, as regard industrial urbanism, study and research methodologies, documentary collections, field work, preservation and safeguard actions.
