Doctor in Law and Social Sciences. Postgraduate degree in International Law at the University of Valencia. Edison González Lapeyre has been Professor of Private International Law, Diplomatic Law and Public International Law at the Law School of UDELAR, Professor of International Maritime Law at the Academy of International Law of The Hague, Professor of Public International Law at the School of Naval War, of CALEN, of IMES, of the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo and the courses of the Inter-American Juridical Committee. He was Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Haiti and Grenada and Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the OAS. He was one of the negotiators of the Rio de la Plata Treaty and its Maritime Front, the Uruguay River Statute, the Treaty for the development of the Cuareim River basin and multiple other international treaties. He is a member of the Historical and Geographical Institute and a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of the History of Spain. He has been decorated by the governments of Argentina and the Dominican Republic and by the National Navy. He was also appointed Honorary Vice Governor of the State of Oklahoma and Honorary Senator of the State of Louisiana (U.S.A.) He was a member of the Uruguayan legal team in the trial brought by Argentina before the International Court of Justice for the Botnia case. He is the author of more than two hundred publications on boundary, maritime and river topics.
