Cristian UNDURRAGA

Architect. Undurraga Deves Arquitectos. Santiago, Chile.

Born in Santiago de Chile in 1954, Cristian Undurraga graduated in Architecture from the Catholic University (1977), where he received maximum distinction. That same year he won the Young Architecture Award from the Chilean Architecture Biennal. In 1978, he founded the architecture studio Undurraga Deves Arquitectos, together with Ana Luisa Deves, where matter, the essence of the place and planimetric clarity are the axes that mark his career. Undurraga Deves' work is characterized by the contemporary interpretation of the legacy of history, transforming it into an architecture that transcends its meaning and remains in time. Social, urban and cultural issues have been the guiding thread of the study's work including also a permanent structural exploration, always attentive to local possibilities and resources.
