The Baltic Ports Conference 2026 (September 02-04) will be hosted in Turku at the waterfront-facing Radisson Blu Marina Palace Hotel, overlooking the waterfront.
Organized by the Baltic Ports Organization (BPO) in collaboration with the Port Authority, the event serves as the leading regional platform dedicated to maritime sector development, port operations, and transport policy within the Baltic Sea region.
BPO ounded on October 1991, in Copenhagen to facilitate regional cooperation and monitor shipping opportunities, the currently counts over 50 members representing the most significant ports and stakeholders in the basin.
The host hub, which recently marked its 870th anniversary as Finland’s oldest port, offers an ideal case study to analyze the resilience and morphological transformation of Nordic waterfronts.
The choice of Turku highlights a vibrant and multicultural growth center of 195,000 residents, historically established as a trading hub in the Aura River valley. Its sheltered port plays a pivotal role in national import-export flows and stands as the second largest passenger port in Finland, operating three daily departures to Åland and Stockholm.
The conference sessions and technical workshops will be structured around two main specialized topics:
- Green Shipping Corridors & Climate Adaptation
This academic session will analyze mathematical models and planning strategies for developing ecological maritime corridors in the Baltics. Researchers will present papers dedicated to climate change adaptation, marine biodiversity protection within port clusters, and the integration of flexible logistics solutions for managing industrial cargo and breakbulk, directly tackling the environmental pressures affecting this delicate marine ecosystem. - Clean Fuels, Carbon Flows & Digital Infrastructure
The focus will shift toward technological solutions and future energy vectors. Panels will address empirical studies on the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) value chain, wind energy integration across industrial waterfronts, and the deployment of automation and data intelligence to optimize traffic management.
A central showcase will highlight the Port of Turku’s landmark investments in a modern passenger terminal launching in 2027, a mega-project driving the automation and holistic renewal of the entire port area.
The summit will gather port authorities, urban planners, civil engineers, policymakers, industry professionals and marine environmental experts to discuss the future of sustainable and digital maritime transport, driven by a strong commitment to ESG topics and climate action.
