Luis Sazatornil Ruiz is a Professor of Art History at the National University of Distance Education (UNED, Madrid). Previously, he was a Professor at the University of Cantabria and a visiting researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, and the Prado Museum's Center for Studies. He has published numerous studies on architecture and urbanism, with a particular focus on Santander and its port. He has curated several exhibitions and coordinated the feasibility study for the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse Art Center (2006). A member of several scientific boards for prestigious journals and publishing houses, he has also directed numerous research projects and international conferences. In recent years, he has edited several volumes, including Spanish Art between Rome and Paris, 18th and 19th Centuries (Casa de Velázquez, 2014); Art, City, and Noble Cultures in Spain (CSIC, 2019); Imago Urbis: Spanish Cities as Seen by Travelers (Trea, 2019); and, more recently, Museums for Whom? Museums How? The Case of Santander and its Contexts (Trea – Santander City Council, 2024), which examines the transformation of Santander's waterfront and its cultural spaces. Additionally, he has participated in National Research Plan projects regarding audiences and museums, such as Atlas Museo: Cultural Coordinates in the Museology of the Present (UCM); The Audiovisualization of Art History Between the Museum and the Academy (UCM-U. Málaga); and Art Audiences in Madrid between the Enlightenment and Romanticism (UNED).
