Javier Viar Olloqui (Bilbao, 1946). In 1969 he graduated in Pharmacy at the Complutense University of Madrid. Since 1972 he has collaborated in various newspapers and magazines as an art critic, with a particular dedication to contemporary Basque art. From 1982 to 1988 he is president of the Pharmaceutical College of Bizkaia and a representative of Euskadi in the General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges. Between 1985 and 1986 he belongs to the Board of the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao. In 1986 he was appointed representative member of Fine Arts of the General Council of Culture of Euskadi. From 1991 to 2001 he is part of the Council of the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao, and between 2002 and 2017 he is director of it. He has been curator of various exhibitions and published poetry books - El Paraíso a cambio (1989), Ciudad en cauce/Hiria huaskan (2002)-, narrative -La sangre del doral (1992), La agonía del ángel (1992), La muerte de la novia (1993)- and art -Balerdi. La experiencia infinita (1993), Bilbao en el arte (2000), Bilbao en las revistas ilustradas (2002) e Historia del arte vasco. De la Guerra Civil a nuestros días (1936-2017) (2017). Is also Corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary of Seville. Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France.
