Cristina ALGA

Director of the Ecomuseo Mare Memoria Viva. Palermo, Italy.

Cristina Alga was born in Palermo, where she lives and works. She is grateful to have remained in her homeland, while also loving to travel the world. As a curator, project designer, and activist, her work focuses on social and cultural policies and practices, the regeneration of living systems, education, and community participation. She curates spaces, develops projects, and supports processes where artistic and cultural practices foster social and environmental justice. She serves as the Director of the Ecomuseo Urbano Mare Memoria Viva, working alongside a team of female designers, educators, and artists who care for the landscape of Palermo's southeastern coast. She is the President of Mare Memoria Viva ETS and the Fondazione Traiettorie Urbane. She is also the co-founder of Clac ETS, the social enterprise Itinerari Paralleli, Booq APS, and Lo Stato dei Luoghi (the Italian national network for culture-led urban regeneration). In addition, she has served as the Palermo representative for Refugees Welcome Italia and is a member of the West Sicily Local Initiative Group (GIT) for Banca Etica.
