Restructuring urban-port waterfronts


This section will feature texts that focus on subject matter such as the following:
- Revitalising and transforming former port zones for urban use: devising and designing restructuring projects for waterfronts; types, criteria, models and their sustainability; the new urban-port landscapes that emerge from the redesignation of disused areas; the architecture and urban planning of waterfronts; the physical and functional liaising and organising of urban-port waterfronts in cities; the urban impact of regenerating obsolete port waterfronts.
- The management and administration of urban-port waterfronts: regulatory framework; models for promoting, enhancing and operating waterfronts; financial profitability and feasibility; public and private initiative and investment; the economic effects that redesignation has upon waterfronts.

Genoa and the waterfront regeneration: the case study of Voltri-Prà





Genoa is a city which has a strong historical connection in continuous transformation with the sea . With the growth of the International market its port is ready to welcome the new challenges of the future which ask to grow in size and logistical terms to improve its offer . The ambition of the city lies in the fact of wanting to become a model of sustainable development attentive to the adjacent urban area. In this regard, it becomes imperative to implement important research topics in the urban planning sector in particular in those parts of the city suffering particularly the presence of port activities such as the district Voltri – Prà. The paper aims to present a development plan possible for the new structure of this area by giving a contemporary key and attentive to the intrinsic needs of the area.
