Architectures and port-city landscape

 

A section that is devoted to publishing studies about:
Urban projects and actions that are carried out in the zones where ports and cities come into contact, mainly concerning buildings and properties that are important because of their outstanding architectural interest or functional singularity;  
Urban and industrial buildings or those of other types inspired by elements that are essential to the port landscape (vessels, containers, etc.);
Rehabilitation of port facilities and properties (docks, quays, jetties, warehouses, sheds, harbour stations, lighthouses and nautical signs and signals).
Will not be accepted technical reports that describe projects and proposals presented on the occasion of competitions.

The planning of port landscape as a tool for creating new landscapes

 

 

ABSTRACT

 

The port and its area of jurisdiction, in accordance with Law 84/94 and the recent Decree 169/2016, are defined by the Port Masterplan. The current “Guidelines for the Port Masterplans” (Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, 2004) recognize to the port its own identity and autonomy. In the areas outside the port domain conflicts between the economic interest and the needs for local quality of life are present, making necessary to adopt measures to protect, manage and plan these landscapes. The “land side” vision of the port, envisages the port as “node of a complex intermodal network, covering the whole surrounding territory and includes the services, professionalism and quality of development, environmental” (Law 84/94) and landscape values, relating to the external landscape, through simple physical infrastructure or border disruptions ties. It is necessary to overcome these limitations and connect using grafts, views, openings, involving margin areas and to a large scale, including the Ecosystem Services, necessary for the welfare of local communities. A process wich follows the definition of objectives, strategies and actions for the conservation, management and planning of the port landscape might support environmental studies, wich are preliminary to the drawing up of operational tools and compensatory measures for the impacts arising from the port infrastructure operational actions.
